Space ship modular kit Wip
« on: August 21, 2015, 01:14:18 am »
Hello everyone  :)
I am working to create space ship kit. Model was 80% done. I'm texturing now.
Here are some screen shot. https://picasaweb.google.com/108294356415995983060/SpaceShipModularKitWIP?authuser=0&feat=directlink
If you have any suggestions or ideas, please comment. Especially, I want feedback about texture taste and design.

Very nice work, beautiful texture, lots of modular props and attention to detail and level design.

Ceiling parts

Corridor parts overview

Do you like that taste?

And more screenshots, go to the blew link. There are some room parts.

I've learned a technique about automatic texture generation. But the design work itself is so difficult for me :-\

I refined texture setting. I think it became more Star Wars like props. I got a nice leakage procedural mask. So I will finalize hallway parts.

I'm done with a set of corridor, so I tested these in game edit mode in order to check the real visual and scale impression. In the perspective of scale feeling, the result is not so bad. But overall, I felt functional and aesthetic are so boring. Moreover, each of my finished object has no conceptual unification.
Spoiler for Hiden:

So I decided total reconstruction. My current models are too primitive, -of course, one of the reason is I intended to bring the better performance- that brings lack of inspiration and cause of hard texture working.

Below image was developed from old L angle corner model. In the development, I found new model allow me to more flexibility and freely construction. Be able to connect a gate or other passage in between the "all" pillars. And achieved width pattern or corridor.

Spoiler for Hiden:

The whole plan I will separate the workflow into two parts.
1 ; The architectural model phase, pillar, wall, molding, brace, etc.
2 ; The modular parts phase for actual level design, corner, curve, junction, etc.
I studied efficient texture making workflow in previous work. I found texture work is more hard than modeling work. So I think it is better to make the modular parts by architectural building components with a versatile. Maybe bring more productive.
Spoiler for Hiden:
In texture designing

This would be a good idea usually, but look at your face count increases. You have to think of the performance, as well.
The first set of props looks good, especially for Warband. Only thing that's off is that little 'stripe' of bars or something.

Yes, new objects have too many faces. I know. I will create each modular parts less than 800 faces.

Update corridor model
I want to hear your opinion about which designs are better.
※Both of tested in the static lighting because old one does not have normal and specular map yet. And scene type is interior lighting. No sun shadow.
Spoiler for Hiden:
old
new

And also, new design achieved gross like effect accidentally as a result of lighting bug in the Edit  mode.
Material shader setting : specular_shader_noskin_bump_high_Instanced
Spoiler for Hiden:

But, if Warband engine is working correctly, the lighting expresses warm feelings like fireplace. No wonder that M&B was developed medieval age!
Like this↓
Spoiler for Hiden:

I have to adjust that to blue or sci-fi like feeling. If anyone know how to change color and intensity of lighting, tell me about that. Ideally I hope my model will become like this https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/2c/35/21/2c3521edacb7e3494a40c66153be6218.jpg
If you have any suggestion, to say the free ;)

Thank you Rathon  ;D I will continue working.

And I found how change color and intensity of lighting.
Example screen. Maybe this would need more intensity.
